Fast and simple exercise to be grounded and empowered
A fast and simple exercise to be grounded, centered & empowered when you don't have time to meditate. Inspired by the Japanese anime “My neighbour Totoro”.
Energizing and Empowering Totoro Exercise
This exercise is actually a famous scene from Japanese anime “My neighbour Totoro”. In the scene, the main character Satsuki and her little sister Mei planted some seeds in their garden. One day, in the middle of the night, they woke up and found Totoros where they planted the seeds. Totoros were doing a mysterious dance praying for sprouts to come out. They put their feet down strong into the earth, and push, push, push.... and push up into the sky! Satsuki and Mei joined them and did the dance.
So this exercise acts out the part where they put their feet down strongly into the earth, squat down and then stretch their whole body all the way up into the sky. By doing this you can let go of stress and tension in your body, and you can feel grounded and empowered.
How to do the Totoro Grounding Exercise
Just imagine yourself being the seed. First you're gonna squat down, down, down and connect to the earth. And then you're spreading roots down to the earth and they go down.
Then you sprout up into the sky and feel the sun and receive the energy from the sun. And feel the energy coming into your body.
Then you go down again and spread your roots down deeper.
Sprout into the sun and receive the sun's energy.
And down again roots are getting deeper and deeper and bigger and stronger.
And up and reach to the sky and you'll be going even bigger and taller. Feel the energy and power of the earth and sun filling your whole body.
Do this one maybe 10 times. It's a very simple exercise. This is a fun one to do with kids too. Or with adults.
